There are several levels of trial courts in Travis County, with the highest level (the most serious cases) being the district courts. These are usually courts of last resort. There are five criminal district courts and nine civil district courts. The criminal district courts hear the most serious felony cases in Travis County, brought before the courts by the district attorney's office. The civil district courts hear the most serious civil cases in the county, and are the primary trial courts in cases involving contracts, personal injury, divorces, taxes, and family-related issues. The Court which I am running for is the 200th District Court which is a civil court currently presided by Judge Paul Davis. After 20 years of service, Judge Davis is retiring from the bench. He has presided in such important matters as redistricting.
